Moments Choreography: Dennis Nahat Music: Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49 Composer: Felix Mendelssohn Nahat’s Moments is a pure movement expression of the dazzling Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 49 by Felix Mendelssohn and showcases the individual talents of the Company members. The joyful finale suggests a Gypsy-like charactère dance of passion and tenderness. “Moments may be Nahat’s loveliest ballet.” The San Francisco Chronicle Salut d’Amour Choreographer: Donald Mahler Composer: Edward Elgar Ballet for three couples celebrating their friendship and affection for each other. Set to the sweetly elegiac music for piano and violin of Sir Edward Elgar and reflecting the period of youth without cares in a world about to change forever. This will be its Ballet San Jose premiere. Square Dance Choreography: George Balanchine Music:/Composers: Antonio Vivadi's Concerto Grosso in B minor and the first movement of Concerto in E Major for Violin, Op. 3, nos. 10 and 12 and Arcangelo Corelli's Sarabanda, Badnierei e Giga, second and third movements. Toe-tapping, hand-clapping, finger-snapping fun; that's Square Dance—a lickety-split hoedown. Classical ballet takes an over-the-shoulder look at its folkdance roots complete with live on-stage caller. “The footwork is amazing and exhilarating. Yes, you can see the square dancing in the patterns, but they are beautiful, and honored, and the movement is, thankfully, Balanchine—All Balanchine.” European Weekly
